With summer on the way what could be more refreshing than sipping on freshly made iced tea on a hot summers day. Even better Rooibos iced tea is always a win when entertaining family, friends and guests. Besides being able to offer them a healthier alternative to sugar-laden or fizzy drinks, you’ll be offering them a delicious and healthy alternative that is both quick and affordable to make with everyday ingredients that you will most likely have at home.
We made our refreshing zesty rooibos iced tea recently and was asked to please share the recipe. It is so quick and easy to make, however our recommendation is to make it the night before, if you have the time, to allow for the flavours to infuse. If you do not have the time to make it overnight, make it on the day and enjoy once cold. You could always add crushed ice for the chill factor. Without further ado here is a quick and easy rooibos iced tea recipe using simple everyday ingredients.
Zesty Rooibos Iced Tea Recipe
- 4 rooibos teabags
- 1 litre boiled water
- Lemon juice of half a lemon, freshly squeezed
- Mint leaves, bruised
- 75g sugar / 4 tablespoons of honey (optional)
In a large bowl pour the boiling water over your rooibos teabags; add freshly squeezed and allow to steep. To satisfy your sweet tooth, add sugar or honey. Slightly bruise your mint leaves to release their flavour and add to your rooibos iced tea mixture.
Allow your rooibos tea to steep for at least an hour before removing the teabags. We leave our rooibos teabags in for at least an hour because the longer it brews, the more antioxidants are released.
Once cool, chill in the fridge until ready to enjoy. Add crushed ice if desired.
Makes 1 litre. Double the ingredients to make 2 litres.
PS. We used the Carmien Creamy Vanilla flavoured rooibos tea to add the vanilla flavour to your rooibos iced tea, however you could also try the Kings Vanilla which is also a lovely vanilla tea or the Cederbos Almond Vanilla rooibos tea for a nutty vanilla flavour
